Aircel is an Indian mobile network operator, headquartered in Chennai. It offers voice, 2G, 3G and 4G data service. The Company has currently gained a momentum in the space of telecom in India post the allocation of additional spectrum by the Department of Telecom, Govt. of India for 13 new circles across India.These include Delhi (Metro), Mumbai (Metro), Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra & Goa, Rajasthan, Punjab, UP (West) and UP (East).
Aircel is the sixth largest Mobile network operator in India with a subscriber base of 82.01 million as of April 2015. Aircel Provides Technology of GSM, EDGE, and HSDPA. Aircel founded in 1999 by Maxis Communications and shared to Apollo Hospital (26%). This is the leading mobile operator in Tamil Nadu, North-East and Assam.
The Services provided by Aircel is 3G and 4G. For 3G, it paid 65,000 million for spectrum in 13 circles across India. Aircel has introduced new price plans for its consumers and are termed to be the cheapest in the country. Aircel became the launch partner for Apple iPhone 4 along with Bharti Airtel as of 2011.
For 4G service, Aircel paid 34380 million for acquiring wirless broadband specturm in Eight Circle across India, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, North East,Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
In August 2014, Aircel launches 4G services in Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir, becoming the only private telecom operator to offer all the three existing technologies of 2G, 3G and 4G in these markets. Later, Aircel launched 4G services in four circles including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar and Odisha.
Aircel relaunched its service in Kerala as of April 2015. Aircel provides more offers and traffic charges plan like Talktime, Free SMS, Local call, STD Call etc. Aircel announces new cheapest 3G plans,so the data charge is reduced by 50%. Now it’s possible to access 1GB data at just Rs. 128. And also unlimited downloading data at just Rs 27. Aircel rolled out new affordable 3G Pocket Internet plans across the 3G circles for all prepaid subscribers.
The Market share is 8.15 as of September 2014. Aircel company has about 800 employees.
Aircel has launched ‘Design your own plan’, a new online service, which enables prepaid and postpaid subscriber to create a plan of their own choice. It enables users to customize their plans across calling, texting and surfing using the Plan Designer tool. Customers can also redesign the plan or add extra packs for calling or SMS depending on their needs.
Airtel launched ‘MyPlan’, a similar service for postpaid subscribers last year. Aircel’s new service is a bit different from it. This lets you choose how much you use Calling service, SMS or data and finally gives you a plan once you finished.
