Vodafone India formerly known as Vodafone Essar and Hutchison Essar (1992-2007) founded in 1994 headquartered in Mumbai. Vodafone India is the 2nd largest Mobile network operator in India with roughly 184 million subscribers as of April 2015. The Ownership shared to Essar Group 33% and Vodafone 67%. Vodafone uses technology of GSM, EDGE, and HSPA in India.
It offers both prepaid and postpaid GSM cellular phone coverage throughout India with better performance. It provides services using GSM technology as the basis of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz.
Vodafone India launched 3G services in the country in the January–March quarter of 2011 and plans to spend up to $500 million within two years on its 3G networks. Vodafone is the second largest player in telecom operator in India afterAirtel, with a market share of 22.95%.
The Mobile Service provided by Vodafone is 3G, M-Pesa. For 3G service, Vodafone paid 11617.86 million for specturm in 9 circles including delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Kolkata, Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai, Tamilnadu, Uttar pradesh (East) and West Bengal. After launching in Uttar pradesh, it was the fifith private operator in the country, following Tata Docomo, Reliance Communications, Airtel, and Aircel.
M-Pesa customers can deposit and withdraw money from a network of agents that includes airtime resellers and retail outlets acting as banking agents. The service enables its users to
- deposit and withdraw money
- transfer money to other users and non-users
- pay bills
- purchase airtime
Vodafone plans to rollout this service throughout India. The user needs to register for this service by paying 100 Rupees, on which 25 Rupees will be credited back to the users account and there are charges levied per M-Pesa transaction for money transfer services and DTH and Prepaid recharges can be done through m-pesa for free.
Vodafone launches the plan and it is successfully growing. It provides more features for users, they can send money, Prepaid recharge, DTH recharge, Withdraw money and Vodafone Postpaid.
Vodafone has already announced its plan to launch 4G by the year-end in markets such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Kochi.

i have taken vodafone sim 1 month back. to be frank this is worst network and their customer care support is worst. i have used idea,tatadocomo and airtel but i don’t see this type of worst service. whenever i call customer care, it wil take 30 min minimum and they will charge 50 paise for every 3 min. if am waiting when 3 months will complete to change to another network. i am really frustrated and they are torturing customers. please don’t port to vodafone. they will show you hell. please folks don’t take vodafone. worst network and worst customer support.
Really friend, i should read the comment like these before porting to bloody worst network of India. Now suffering with the poor services. Waiting for completion of 3 months so that can be switched to some other better network.
Vodafone network is not good at many places, please study well before choosing vodafone
